Leaving

Everything is packed and the house is empty, one last photograph of the house through the magnolia which will bloom in the next few days so I will sadly miss it. An exciting new adventure starts tonight but leaving a house is always sad. I haven't had any time to comment on any blogs, my apologies but I will be back doing so in a couple of days.

The first asparagus of the season

Asparagus is in the shops now, a true sign of spring. I bought a bunch this morning at the farmer's market. If you hold the asparagus and snap it has a natural break so no need to cut off the ends, then just steam it for three minutes and drizzled with oil, and sprinkle with sea salt  - absolutely delicious!

Grape hyacinth

This tiny grape hyacinth was sitting alone in my garden this morning, such a gorgeous little plant. Our clocks go forward tonight and I noticed the birds started earlier this morning, I love this time of year.

More signs of Spring.

I don't like weeds but I do love it when it's time to dust off the garden tools, it really means spring is coming.

spider webs

The early morning light is so beautiful at the moment and it catches these wonderful spider webs everywhere.

A day at the seaside

I met up with Laura today and we had a lovely time walking along the beach at Whitstable in Kent. It was the most beautiful day and the sea was so calm, a perfect spring day for taking pictures.

Ling Ling

We are moving to a rented flat for two months which unfortunately means that the dogs and ling ling can't come with us but will have to go into kennels, I will miss them so much - Ling Ling wanted to say goodbye.

A lovely Saturday

The sun shone all day today and it is the most beautiful evening, the daffodils look so lovely in  the golden hour light.

Packing up the rooms

This is the guest room, it will hopefully sleep lots of visitors in the new house.

More windows

I am finding it very hard to get inspiration at the moment due to my head being full of lists and packing and more lists. I thought today I would just take a picture of my bedroom window, it's such a dull day that I had to convert it to black and white!

Countdown

It's just over two weeks till we move and I thought I should take some more pictures of the house before we leave it. We have some lovely old doors in the house, this one leads through into the dining room - you will probably recognise the window and the sofa from lots of my photographs.

My favourite colours

I love yellow and green, they always remind me of spring, at this time of year you can see these colours in the garden with the daffodils and the green leaves of the sprouting tulips. When we lived in Sydney I painted our kitchen bright yellow and when the sun shone in it almost used to glow, sadly bright yellow wouldn't look quite the same in a house in England!

More signs of spring.

No idea what these purple flowers are called but they are popping up in the garden now.

Leaves

I found the remains of a hydrangea head in the garden this morning, a perfect model for my 100mm macro lens.

It's a dog's life

Mintie is enjoying the sunshine today. Being a dog is exhausting work. It's black and white Wednesday today at the long road to China, do check out other entries.

Shrove Tuesday

It's pancake day today, apparently it used to be today that everyone would stock up on pancakes and sweet things before Lent starts tomorrow. I am going to try and be good and give up cakes, biscuits and chocolate. What are you giving up?

Monday morning.

We had a frost overnight and today is bathed in sunshine, happy monday!

World book night

I have always loved books, I have so many in the house and am never without a book by my bedside. I believe the old adage that there are too many good books to waste on a bad one so if I don't like a book I will happily toss it aside half way through. Wherever you are I hope you get a chance to sit in a comfy chair with a good book tonight.

Because it's Friday

A bit of parsley to use in cooking over the weekend. This is also photograph number 182 of my 365 photographs, I am half way through the year! sometimes it has been hard to think of what to photograph each day but I have only missed one day so far and that was Christmas Day. If you are thinking about doing a 365 it is a great discipline and I really recommend it.

The desk

My husband has a lovely old leather desk with silver pen tray and a silver inkwell, thought they looked quite nice in black and white.

Opening the window

I decided to throw open the window today even though it's freezing cold again, I need to shake off winter.
Using an aperture of f2.8 meant that the grass outside became a lovely blend of green.
