Macro Monday

It's macro monday again at Lisa's Chaos. I took this picture of my cosmos over the weekend. I do worry that I seem to take too many flower shots and don't tend to use my macro for other things. I know macro lenses are great for portraits but my family are fed up of posing for me and I'm not brave enough to go up to strangers whereas flowers happily sit for me. Do you use your macro for other subjects? what do you find it great for?

  1. This is gorgeous (so funny about your family tiring of the shoots = I also relate to the stranger thing)

  2. Very beautiful.......try using your macro for photographing food. I did it while making a BLT and the results were great, both the pics and the sandwich.

  3. Hiya Justine,

    Flowers?
    Why worry?
The subject is endless, and immeasurably satisfying.
Besides, I think of you as the "Shortbread Lady" :-)
So different in black and white. Never done that.

  4. This is gorgeous Justine!
I use my macro almost exclusively for flowers. Maybe it's because I just love them, and as you said, they sit happily for you, but I think it is more that I notice things about them more (detail) when looking through the lens, that I probably would not notice in another situation. We also have a pretty short growing season here, so I get as many as possible while they are around!
    Have a great day!

  7. I'm lucky in that I have a 6-year-old sister who loves posing for photos, so I can use her to practice on whenever I want! But, in my opinion there can never be too many flower photos :) Love this.

  9. Hi Justine, this is a beautiful photo! I have one similar to this that I have been waiting to post. I have to run off to work though and won't have time today, so it'll have to be another time. I love all of your photos, and never get tired of flower photos! Sometimes I use my lens for close ups of my sewing/craft projects.

  10. This is so beautiful! The petals are like fabric - silk - such a beautiful texture. They lead beautifully right to your "macro" point, which is beautifully clear. The black and white lets this sing! Of course, i don't know what I'm talking about but that's what I love about this. =p

Tom, mentioned, and I have been thinking about how many photos I have of plants and leaves and FLOWERS. The time is coming VERY soon when there won't be any around. They are fascinating and, well, they are universally, absolutely loved; so, why not? However, isn't it good to challenge ourselves? To try and see something completely differently? You might find something that is completely genius - a whole new point of view. Well, I think that I'm talking to myself.

hmm, macro is great for texture? unseen details? Intimate and focused subjects? bugs! heehee.

  11. I don't use that lens often, mostly because it's in my honeys' camera bag. I really need to challenge myself using other lenses... perhaps now I will be more inspired to use more than my Iphone ;)!

  12. I love this! It looks great in b/w. I use my macro on just about any object since I don't have a ton of flowers to photograph. I definitely don't have people to photograph but it is one of my favorite lenses.

  14. Flowers seem to be my favorite subject for macro too, love it for trees and pieces of wood too - for some reason I love the look and texture of pieces of wood in macro

  15. I don't have a macro :( yet. But I will! I thought seeing the tiny details of nature is what a macro was created for right?

  16. Macro is on my next list to get for sure. I think flowers are always interesting to shoot. There is so much variety and so many angles you can choose from. I think anyway.

In photography class we had to go and out in public and shoot what we saw. I found that people are a little intimidated too. After awhile I was tired of getting the "no's" that I went into the liquor store, bought some cigarettes and them to bribe some people. It works, (on most) and they like it, you get a story and finally some pics. Just a little tid bit. :)

    Sorry for the long comment.

Love your flower shot. I'm such a sucker for black and white. Like a moth to a light. :)

  19. I have to agree with Lisa - I usually prefer the color in flowers but this really worked well.

    Thanks for visiting.

  21. Lovely macro!

Like you, I tend to use my macro lens for flowers and bugs but I know I should expand my horizons!

  23. I find it great for flowers, too! I am an O'Keefe fan, the closer I can get and capture the shape and/or the details, the better. I like the way your
flower shows in all its fragility.

  24. I use my macro lens for shooting nature images and also when photographing everyday objects around the house.

This flower shot is beautiful in monochrome!

  26. I understand you wanting to branch out a bit with the macro, but when you get such beautiful floral shots, it's hard to stop! I've tried to challenge myself to look for the odd to use the macro, just for fun. Sometimes it's good, sometimes just funny!
