The theme this week is nostalgia over at Madeline Bea's fantastic blog. Whenever I travel I get nostalgic. As I stand in a long queue with my shoes in one hand and my teeny tiny see through bag in the other I long for the days of romantic travel. I think of steam trains and porters whistling as farewells are said and hankies are waved out of windows and then I know I have to watch Celia Johnson in A Brief Encounter again.

Oh I'm with you. I think there was definitely something to be said for those old days when travel had a capital 'T' and it was all much slower and more elegant: steamer trunks and porters, dinner with the captain and remembering the golden rule of POSH (port out, starboard home). Of course I probably couldn't afford to travel like that, but it's nice to daydream!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. :)
ok between you and angelcel I'm ready to board a steamer now! So much more romantic than the sterile travel we have now. All it does is give me anxiety.
ReplyDeleteLovely picture and very nostalgic. Perfect for this challenge.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful old trunk. My parents still have one or two trunks from when they travelled between Australia and England in the 1980s - they were shipped with clothes etc etc in them prior to their arrival. I love them so much still - great pieces of nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderfull photo.Congratulation.
ReplyDeleteOoo I LOVE how you worded that and explained the old day travel :-) Beautiful! Beautiful photo as well!
ReplyDeleteLove this. I love old trunks!

Dear Justine,
ReplyDeletethank you for your nice words on my blog. I really like your photo of this old suitcase. A sepia touch always brings some nostalgia to a shot, doesn't it?
I scrolled down further and I really like the photo of your son playing rugby. The post treatment goes so well with it.
Just seeing this shot makes me wonder where that suit case has been.... Great shot...
ReplyDeleteLOVE this....
ReplyDeleteyou took me there with you.

Oh, you did a wonderful job with nostalgia!
ReplyDeleteI always long to experience the good old days of travel...something only ever glimpsed in old stories or hazy films sequences. This is a lovely shot recalling that long-gone period :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Justine! I simply love this photo! And your post describes just the way I feel! I really had to laugh at your description of standing with shoes and see through bag - I could so see me at the airport!
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to spot your shots just by looking at them. You've definitely got a style all your own. Great shot and post on nostalgia!
ReplyDeleteJustine, this is simply, beautiful. I love the sepia color and the oldness of the photo. It is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to bring the romance back to travel...it's just not the same but your photo tells the story of travels past.
ReplyDeleteLove suitcase shots, and this one is great.
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful!
ReplyDeletethis fits the theme so perfectly!!! awesome shot!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, this is beautifully thought out and executed. One thing we don't do any more is see what is around us as we travel. My parents love Amtrack because they relax and look out the window at the beautiful (or not so nice) land they are traversing. But getting to ones destination quickly certainly has its advantages. Nice to have a choice, I guess.
ReplyDeletewonderful case. If only we could go back in time. It seems pics from those days captured it best. And film.
ReplyDeleteIncredible. Love this.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you get nostalgic at the airport - I just get anxious, frequently aggravated, and my feet get cold. Next time I travel, though, I will think of your lovely steamer trunk, and try to send myself to a farther away, more romantic place. Thanks for the image.
ReplyDeleteoh...this is a perfect shot for nostalgia! beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your sepia shot....adds to the nostalgic feel. I'm not so sure about that old time travel....might be kind of dusty-people always having to "freshen up" after a long journey. You're more of a romantic than I. As always a lovely image.
ReplyDeleteLovely sepia photo of that fascinating trunk!
