Pears

We have gale force winds blowing outside at the moment and it's very dark so I decided to experiment more with changing my ISO and using natural light. I put these pears in front of the window and set my ISO on 5000, I did try photographing them on my highest ISO which is a whopping 6400 but that set the histogram off too much so I dropped it down to 5000. With a high ISO comes a lot of background 'noise' or grain, but in black and white I like it as it gives that sort of 60's film effect.

  1. Ooooooh !! I love this . The pear looks like it is made of wood, it has a sort of " stiffness" to it and yet the wood and the grain in the table appears soft.......... and no I have'nt been smoking anything or drinking the dregs of the shiraz, thats just how it looks to me. Thanks for the technical data too, now I can go off and try it too. Cheers

  2. Yay for experimenting with ISO. Looks great, and I agree I think the higher ISO "adds" something to black and whites.

  5. There is a saying in my Country "beauty is in the eyes of those who see it" and I must say that your beautiful black&whites are proof of that!

  7. Very nice shot! There is a terrific product from Topaz Labs - Topaz Denoise, that works wonders on getting the noise out of photos. But you are absolutely right - it works great in this photo!

  11. Really like this shot Justine. For that high an ISO, I would really expect to see a lot of noise, but i really do not here. Nicely done!

  16. Another wonderful shot. In my class this week it is all about ISO settings. I can't wait to see what my instructor says about it. But I think the best thing to do is just play around with it like you have..

  22. Hey Justine-
Love this. Love too that you share your settings. I never use flash and always shoot in natural light and am trying to ADD flash in to my shots.
As always-I love your compositions. The fact that I can pick out your style I feel is a compliment to your photography voice. Very nice.
