Macro Friday

It's macro Friday again at Blogging from Bolivia. It is still snowing here, I spent about five minutes outside as it was so cold, saw this leaf was clinging on to the fence this morning. Are any of you photographing in the snow finding your exposure is way off? I was reading an article yesterday saying how almost always your exposure will be off due to the metering system in your camera that is set to callibrate an average scene and snow is not average so most of the time your shot will come out underexposed and the snow will be grey. If you are using aperture priority you can use exposure compensation or if not, just give it a few tweaks in the computer.

  2. Your photo looks great!
There is no snow here, I even dare to write 'today is sunny but cold!'.
I had a great time doing the Sunday Creative and I will try to continue doing it! Thank you so much for hosting it so I could enlarge the borders of my creativity :)

  3. Love the composition and tones of this shot. You are lucky to find something not totally covered in snow!

I follow the general rule for capturing snow and dial in upto +2 stops for exposure compensation. A tweak of the WB normally helps too.

  11. So nice.
With snow, if you use your spot meter, and meter off a middle gray (not necessarily gray, but a midtone),it works really well.

  14. No snow where I am, but I plan on taking a trip up the country over the weekend to take some shots. I'll be exposing +2 stops depending on light etc... You got a great shot in the end!

  15. Such a beautiful, crisp shot! I'm also struggling with this on my (albeit, budget point-and-shoot) camera - it looks like you might have an option to change the metering mode so that it doesn't average light metered from the entire frame, but only from a spot (or center).

  16. Lovely photo. I read somewhere that to make the snow appear as it should (white) it's best to meter off the sky and then recompose and take the shot. I seem to have been taking nothing but snow scenes for the past couple of days!

    your macro is lovely!!!

  24. So how do you typically meter? I use spot metering so I wonder if that would help or hurt. Not like I have many chances to photograph snow since we don't get much here but I am curious. This is a beautiful shot.

  28. Lovely shot! I'm so glad you wrote that about snow exposure. I just posted a blog a few weeks ago wondering why my snow pictures always come out so dark, and when I saw your picture I thought "how does she do that??" so I'm glad you included the answer :)
