For week 3 of Darrah Parker's brilliant slice of life project we are looking at light. I love using natural light, I take pictures in the morning so I don't have to use a flash and if I photograph at night I crank up my ISO really high and switch to black and white. I took this in front of my kitchen window which is where I take a lot of my photographs as it is very light. It is dull and miserable outside but I always think a burst of orange is good for the soul. How about you? do you use flash or natural light?

natural light of course!!!
ReplyDeleteespectacular dear Justine, the light, color, composition...all is perfect here, well done!!!
I love natural light, but I find it so hard in winter. I've resisted buying a big fancy flash mostly because I'm still clinging onto trying to make the natural light work but we don't seem to have any room which has good light in the winter.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Justine. Sun.......you have sun?
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented with light! You always get the lighting perfect!
ReplyDeleteI prefer natural light, but I use both. I'm practicing with flash, trying to make it look natural. That's a challenge!
So simple and the lighting is great. I've been playing around with fruit as well, it makes a convenient and tasty subject.

Love the simplicity! I try not to use the flash whenever possible. I like the pictures much better when they are in natural light.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you set this up, and the orange is a nice pop of color right now. I try to catch some natural light during the day. I really hate shooting indoors at night. I've yet to get anything i'm happy with.
ReplyDeleteYou always do a great job, your photos are always full of light.
Gorgeous photo!
ReplyDeleteThis shot says Good morning sunshine all over it.. I love how you caught the morning light.. Hope you have a Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Linda
Brilliant shot. The light is beautifully soft. I also hate using flash and having quite a dark house I have to crank up the ISO pretty high which generally seems to work OK.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I always think nature did such a great job of making oranges a winter fruit - they bring such colour to grey cold days, not to mention a good dose of vitamin C.
ReplyDeleteI share your feeling for flash (not using it). I cannot even remember the last time I did use it. Natural light is so much nicer. I'll even choose "bad" natural light over flash.
ReplyDeleteI like this shot. Nicely done!
How fun that the two classes aligned on topic! :) I agree that oranges are a little gift of color in winter. I use natural light. In fact, indirect and diffused light from and overcast day is one of my favorite kinds of light. Unless it's night, of course, and then I use any light I can get that's not flash. I really dislike flash!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely photo - you captured the light beautifully and the oranges add a great pop of colour. I prefer natural light too. It's difficult in winter but I try to avoid flash if possible.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful, Justine! I love the light here, the orange is so invigorating and the background is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI also prefer natural light - I must admit I don't know how to handle a flash... As my camera isn't so good with higher ISO (400 is just about the limit) I fall back on using a tripod and artificial light.
Just lovely! You have certainly managed to capture the light successfully. I have the opposite problem, my house is so bright it is nearly impossible to find a shadow anywhere! I have had to place a sun filter on my lens just to be able to take a photo out of my window!!
ReplyDeleteI'm all about natural light
ReplyDeleteWonderful use of light. Great color in that picture.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely GORGEOUS!!! I love this.......
ReplyDeleteYou are lucky to have morning sun! This is a wonderful, happy photo. The shadings of color are delicious!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Justine, love the oranges. I too love the natural light, and never use a flash. Sometimes I will spot areas in the house that the light is showing through and run and get something I want to photograph. Looks like your kitchen window is perfect! I also adore late afternoon light.
ReplyDeleteI much prefer natural light as then I don't have to work as hard! PS Thanks for the thoughtful remarks on my endeavor!
ReplyDeleteyummy light!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great shot!! Every watercolorists dream shot for sure...nothing like a splash of orange to brighten up anyone´s day...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors and beautiful light. I'm with you...natural light is always the best if you have a choice.
