The farmers have been stringing the hop fields this week in readiness for the new hops to be planted. Once planted, the hop vines climb up these string frames and fill them over the next few months then in August the harvesting takes place. I love how the patterns of farming never change, they have been doing this every spring for years and years.

Fabulous shot...the 'atmosphere' of ' preparation ' for an event ; the muted 'sepia ' look colouring, so enhancing this age old tradition. Beautiful textures and patterns and lovely warm light...... a favourite.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant photo, incredible repetition in this one! Who would have thought this was how hops was grown??!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know hops was a vine. I love the golden sunlight reflecting off of those strings in endless repetition. It definitely gives one the feeling of the agelessness of the practice.
ReplyDeleteWell captured! : )
What gorgeous patterns, Justine, and such wonderful tones! I also love the perspective.
ReplyDeleteThis is so interesting, Justine . . . I love the patterns and beauty in farming. All those strings for the hops to "hop" up on.
ReplyDeleteI lake it, interesting and nice shot Justine!
ReplyDeleteGreetings.
How cool is that? We grow 4 hop plants in our backyard for our own harvest and beer production.

This is a lovely capture and how it captures the movement of the seasons.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, I had no idea hops were grown that way.
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern and the capture! Just wish it looked like that around here! Another 12 inches of lovely white stuff to wake up to this morning.
ReplyDeleteLove the lines in this Justine.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photograph.
How interesting, and beautifully captured Justine! Thanks for sharing. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful shot with the lines of string criss crossing each other. The colours are wonderful too. Interestingly, it looks much better against this black background than it did against a white background in Google Reader. It comes alive against the dark background.
ReplyDeleteLove your point-of-view and framing..and how you've taken such an ordinary scene and rendered it 'art'.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about hops. It looks like a work of art! Love the pattern and repetition. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great shot for patterns and repetition..
ReplyDeleteMy computer has been down.. So it is nice to be back in blogland.. I hope you are having a wonderful day!!
I love the patterns and colours in this. This scene reminds me of growing up in Herefordshire - hops are one of the big crops there.
ReplyDeleteLove the perspective and patterns here.
ReplyDeleteHooray for the changing of seasons. The perspective of the repetition here is great.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shot!
