A slow start to January

How is the first month of the new year going for you? have you worked out your word? stuck to your resolution or diet and decided how you will change the world over the next twelve months? I don't know about you but I hate the beginning of the year when all the magazines talk about is diets and resolutions and how we must all change, I refuse to play and stick to reading my wonderful pile of books I got for Christmas instead. Things are slowly returning to routine here, Alice is madly writing essays and  planning her dissertation, wondering what she is going to do with the rest of her life once she graduates in July. Harry is enjoying re connecting with all his school friends after his first six months at university, they will both head back for another term in the next couple of weeks but until then I am enjoying every moment of the mess and a full house.

  1. I like the beginning of the year, a chance for a fresh start and to things differently. I am one of those people who needs a specific start and finish date in order to take action.

  2. I also love the new year and clean slate to begin one's life. It is a feeling that I might be able to do things better this year than last. Sounds like you are enjoying your kids being home even if they make a mess. :)

  3. I think spending quality time with family and reading good books is a great way to start the year. I am trying to take better care of myself this year -- so far started with an awful cold!

  5. I also started slowly into the new year - no resolutions, no pressure. What I do hope so (and maybe that's a resolution after all) is, to have more time for taking photos again and being more present in the blogging world.
    Have a wonderful year, Justine!

  6. You are courageous Justine!!! I'm right there with you!!! After all the drama of this past Christmas, I'm relishing the quiet time to myself to regroup. Maybe it's a bit of cleaning the slate and starting anew...but who cares?!!! I have to admit...I am considering a dietary/lifestyle change...but then...didn't I think about that last New Year???

  8. Beautiful shot. I don't do resolutions, words or set anything (well have set a reading goal of 55 books) at the beginning of the year. For me at the moment its study study study. Next exam is in about 4 weeks time. YIKES!!

  9. Enjoy away and you should. soon the house will be quiet to redirect your thoughts. Right there with you on the resolutions. If I had one, it would be to just keep keeping on with what I'm doing. Happy day Justine.

  10. Wise words. No resolutions for me. I have set myself a de-clutter target for the end of Jan, and a dinner to celebrate it in Feb.

  11. I can't seem to convince myself to get back in the swing of things - maybe it was because I worked through the holidays so my mind wants a vacation now.

  13. Great shot, I love your "domestic views" and this is suggestive of "just another day" which is all 'new year' is about really. As you know I've been away, but it is soooo good to be home and have family around me again so I know how special it is to have your kids home. xx
