On books and light

Finding things to photograph in winter is hard don't you think? inside my house the light is bad and I find I have to bump up my ISO to around 800. I am searching for interesting things to take pictures of to continue my 365 project, I am not a hoarder so don't have lots of trinkets around. I have lots of books, these are the only things I collect, I have mentioned before that I love reading and I've just started my book journal for this year where I rate each book I read and write a small synopsis about it, it's great for when people asked me if I like a book, even if I read it years ago I can revert back to my journal to find out what I thought about it. My son doesn't share my passion for books and bought a kindle yesterday........

  1. funny you have said the light is bad in your home because I always think the light is great in your images. You do very well with the light you have.

Good idea on the journal, but I use the Nook or ipad to read. I love books also but just don't have the space to store all that I read.

  2. Agree about a 365, this time of year is the pits, I took photos of cups of tea and bare plants in desperation last year, mind you I need the practise more than you do. My daughter got a Kindle for Christmas and I never thought I'd say this but I have Kindle envy...

  3. Light looks good to me. I am hoping to get out in the morning to capture some of the frost that will surely be around.

  4. What a great book rating process you process... Lovely image even in the deeper light. ;)

  5. What a good idea to have a book journal.....I read so much I can't remember much about a book six months later. So what was your favorite book of 2012? Mine was In the Garden of the Beasts -- Germany in the 1930s.

  6. Right there with you on the indoor stuff. I've been threatening to build a lightbox and even have most of the materials on hand. Procrastination is also on hand. No trinkets = easier dusting. We're smart!! I do like the lighting here-and books make good props, tho I never think of that. Next time I'm stuck! Have a great day.

  7. Beautiful ! Love the image, the colours, that lovely soft blue/grey. I'm assuming the little hearts are carved out of wood, very beautiful. Love books too. Nothing saddens me more than seeing lovely, small independent book shops closing down. Reading Wolf Hall at the moment, enjoying it immensley.

  8. I do the same thing with when I read a book. I have been doing so for about 3 years. It is fun look back and see what I read. Your photo looks pretty. I do have the same problem with my winter photos. There is just nothing really pretty outside here in the winter. Just dead plants.

    Hugs~

  10. Very pretty Justine! I do love books, and that's a wonderful idea to keep a journal! It has really been a photography challenge for me with the gray skies here...such a difference from working in all that blue skies and sunlight! I am enjoying every minute of it!
