Lately

Lately I have been taking a lot of pictures, carrying around my dslr and making the effort to shoot every day. I must confess I don't miss instagram at all, I thought I would but I realised it was making me a bit lazy, a quite snap, edit, upload, obsess about 'likes'. I am enjoying taking pictures for the diptychs I am doing with Leanne over here. We have been sending each other pictures based on a theme then we match them up, it is great fun, I highly recommend it if you feel in a bit of a rut with your photography. You can easily make a diptych using pic monkey, I am finding it really hard to shoot in portrait so I just adapt my landscape shots, I know a lot of people only shoot in portrait for a diptych but hey, isn't photography all about breaking rules too?

  2. I know exactly what you mean about instagram. I go back and forth with it, but it does make you lazy for sure.

  3. Well wouldn't you know it, just when you get out of instagram I get into it! I am trying to make an effort to shot with both. I do prefer my big girl camera and really do it a lot. But I also upgraded my iPhone this year from the 4 to the 5S so felt I should be using it also and I always have it with me so thus the instagram. I just discovered hipstamatic and goodness I do love that app camera and all the choices of film and lens so fun and no editing.

Now about your image, I love your diptychs so much and yes I think you can do whatever you want. We know life is way too short to do otherwise. I really shot with both portrait and landscape always have just turn that camera around and around. It has become a habit for me so I don't think too much about it any more. Whatever works and what you are doing Justine is working so no need to fix what is working for you.

  5. I love diptychs and use them a lot, too, and your diptychs are always lovely. Why not break some 'rules'? I've pretty much disappeared from IG, too. Like FB, I find it can dominate your time if you let it and to be honest, I've always enjoyed shooting with my DSLR much more than my iPhone. I will use my iPhone when that's all I have but if I'm serious about where I'm going and what I'm doing, the big girl camera goes along. I don't really miss IG and go on FB only to keep up with my colleagues on FOL because that's where we communicate. Keep shooting, Justine! Your work is always lovely.

  7. There is nothing like our 'big girl cameras." And boy are you right - Instagram can make one lazy. I do share some there, but feel really good with dslr in hand hearing the click of the shutter! Beautiful diptych Justine.

  10. What a beautiful diptych, Justine! I, too, tend to take my photos in landscape - it comes more natural for me.
Thanks so much for reminding me of PicMonkey! I tried it once after reading about it and then forgot it again. But then I'm also find it hard to match photos up to diptychs...
I hope you and Michael are doing fine! All the best to you!

  12. I love the look of your site here! And your diptych is just beautiful! I've never been a big fan of Instagram..I don't quite get the need to capture and share every little moment of one's personal life..even more narcissistic than twitter and Facebook. As for rules, I believe they are meant to be broken!

  13. From what I'm guessing, these are in 1:1 aspect ratios... And they're awesome!
