December reflections

I have read four newsletters today and I think I have peaked Christmas already, how can that be?

I spent the day making Christmas wreaths yesterday with my family. I raided the woods around where my mother lives and my sisters and I and nephew and niece spent a wonderful morning making our creations. As you know from previous posts, I love making wreaths and being in nature and yesterday I was right in the midst of it.

They are so easy to make and so much nicer than buying from a shop.

Otherwise, life carries on and we have moved house! I wouldn't recommend moving house in your 60s, it is exhausting and we worked out that this was our 11th move in 35 years and we have also moved internationally 6 times.  Everything is unpacked and we are just waiting for pictures to be hung on the walls but otherwise its lovely and cosy, its a downsize so it suits the two of us and Max perfectly. I am thinking how I might do a photo project of the house to really make it feel like a home.

I have watched my first Christmas movie, very uninspiring and exactly the same formula - heartbroken girl goes overseas and falls in love with a widowed man with a small child...I haven't yet put on Christmas music. I have filled bowls around the house with baubles, we won't get a tree this year as we will be with our daughter who has gone all out and even bought 3 light up reindeer for the back garden!

I am currently reading a very good book by Claire Blackwood called the fate of mary rose which is a "dark masterpiece" and very well written. She was actually married to Lucien Freud and this is a reissue.

I have a tiny garden in the new house so its back to planting up hyacinth and paper whites inside, I love doing this, so easy and I have also planted up my amarylis which hopefully will flower before Christmas and beyond.

Otherwise I think I will end here and I think I will do a post each day before Christmas to spark some photography enthusiasm again.
