My desire to get out of London peaks in mid July but it begins now as the roads fill with cow parsley (I read they like nitrogen which is why they thrive on roadsides) and 'no mow May' starts and people leave their lawns to grow wild and help nature etc. We managed to have a family weekend away recently, we went to the New Forest which is about an hour and a half from London. My list always needs to include a nice walk and some horses and of course a nice hotel and food and luckily we got all and more, even a game of croquet and a duck house to admire.
