A new adventure

Alice is my eldest child and she is off to University tomorrow, she is so excited but also a bit nervous. I am going to miss her so much. I know that she will have a great time on a wonderful new adventure but I will still find it tough walking into her empty room (which will now be very tidy!) and not having her around the house.
I wanted to take a picture of her hand today as even though she is off on this big adventure as a young woman, when I look at her hands I can still see so much of the child in her and I have looked, held, and touched these hands for the last 19 years and I will really miss them. Anyway, it's only a few weeks till Christmas when she will be home.

  3. Hi there. Thanks for stopping in to see me. I have had a look around and am stunned by your photos. I will have to look into lightroom - this is the first I've heard of it and I like how you have provided your photography lens information on the side bar. Chestnut burs - beautiful! The ping pong shot is extraordinary. Keep on snapping!

  6. Best of luck to Alice, and to you. It's both a happy and sad time to have a child leaving for college. My son started college a month or so ago, but he decided to stay home and drive back and forth (it's only about 20 minutes away). I'll keep both of you in my thoughts for a smooth and easy transition.

    Great photo!

  8. Beautiful shot.
My heart is with you. The hardest thing I've ever had to do is to let go, and even after some practice, I don't know that I've gotten any better at it. Yet it is a wonderfully exciting time for them, and a necessary step, I know.
    Wishing everyone the best.

  11. Aw, this is so sweet Justine! I love the photo of her hand (love her rings!) I don't have children, so I can only "imagine" how you feel. It must be bittersweet. How wonderful your holidays will be this year looking forward to her return!

  13. Aw Justine..........take heart. They never really go away you know. You are connected by a golden thread that cannot be broken. Funny how you mention her hands looking so young. My daughter is 32 and I still think she has baby hands, too. :)

  14. Such young hands! When I look at my mom's hands, I know she didn't pass them on to me, but I see my grandmother's hands - hands are always a lovely way to capture a memory.

  16. Aww... :( I know it will be bittersweet! Beautiful shot of your daughter's hands. I'm sure your mind flashes back to when they were little chubby, sticky, dimpled hands.

  18. Oh gosh, I remember that bittersweet moment. Daughters always stay close to their Mums however and you may be surprised how often she wlll turn to you for advice. With Tweeting, Skyping and all the rest we're never really far away from a quick chat. :)
