A bit of inspiration

Yesterday I had such a lovely day with Leanne, we caught up in the city in Sydney and went to see this wonderful exhibition by Louise Hawson - 52suburbs.com - it was so inspirational, a series of amazing shots from all around the world, mostly in diptych. After we left the exhibition we began looking around us to find our own but sadly shooting in portrait style doesn't come naturally to me and all my photographs looked very odd! I managed to get one of a lady wearing a sari with the most beautiful colour blue and matched it with an old photograph of a tea cup I had. Do you like doing diptychs? do you always shoot in portrait? does it end up coming naturally?

  1. This looks gorgeous! Maybe we don't need to shoot in portrait? this one looks good in squares. It is a beautiful blue.

  2. I tend to mix it up...I start shooting one way and then have to stop and think to turn the camera to get a different perspective. Lovely blues.

  3. Interesting Justine. I got a cool triptych at the lake one summer when this little boy came dancing across the rocks in front of me while I was photographing my grandson in the water. The triptych came out almost in perfect silhouettes because of the lighting. I've never really set out to make any like that.

  4. I love this pairing -- the blue is so vibrant! I find myself shooting in portrait frequently, don't know why. It doesn't display very well, so I think a diptych is a good solution.

  5. Love the color you used! And, yes, I love diptychs, too. I must admit I have to make a conscious decision to shoot in portrait but when I do and I find the right pairing, it's so much fun. So happy to see your photos from your new home. Best to you!

  6. What a wonderful idea - I love the rich blue, your pairing sings! I'm excited to check out the site and maybe even find some diptych inspiration:) (I've been shooting in portrait more since being in Europe, don't know why but it suddenly made sense in many situations.)

  11. I love the way these blues look together. Well done. I always seem to take about a million shots of what ever I am photographing to make sure I the right shot..

    Hugs~

  12. Though my subject matter is usually nature and landscapes, I used to shoot in portrait quite a lot. Nowadays, I tend to shoot much more in landscape orientation, knowing that most of my photographs are only going to be viewed on a computer screen - either my own or through my blog. Landscape simply fits the screen better. This bothers me.

As for your photos above, I'm amazed that you were able to match that vivid blue sari with your teacup photo. I also like the way the shape and texture of the cup echoes the drape and folds of the lady's sari.
