on blogging

I keep reading posts about how blogging is dead and no one reads blogs anymore and I come to my little space here and instantly I am stuck, what shall I write about? what pictures should I use? Having read a huge long blog post yesterday on how we are supposed to engage our audience, etc etc, I now have writers block. I have always preferred pictures to words so I will stick to that and hopefully a few people will pass by and have a look, what do you think? do you think blogs are dying? is anyone out there?? This is a picture of a delicious soup I made using broccoli and cannelloni beans.

  1. It is a constant debate. I have noticed readership is down, even though I post regularly, but I also read less because I am busy creating and learning, my down time devoted to e-course reading and videos. But I still will not leave my space in the blog world. It makes me happy, I love planning for it and sharing my photographs. It is space that lets me be me in all my glorious randomness.

  2. Just my opinion, but I have seen it drastically change over the past year or so. Again, my opinion, but the overriding theme if you will seems to be that so many have made it a job as opposed to something you do for yourself. For whatever reason, so many seem pressured by number of followers, likers, you name it. In this day and age, the last thing most people need is another "job," and I believe that once it becomes that, it's pretty much over.

This soup looks yummy, and I love the colors in this photograph!

  4. It's an interesting thing isn't it? It's definitely changed since I began. I'm like you it that I'm often lost for words but I'm happy to keep plodding along- I enjoy it as a way to document moments & have a place to collect photos. Im posting less & reading less but I'm still here 😊😊

  6. Perhaps blgging is evolving. I read fewer blogs and comment less than I did even a year ago. Blogging is here to stay but I believe we may see less interaction, which, of course, is disappointing. Interestingly enough, I am seeing a rise of blogs that just post a photo or two and a quote or short personal comment. This, I believe, would be a format that would suit you well, Justine. If I do another personal blog, this is what I plan to do.

  7. We're out here... I visit your blog with every new post.
I, too, prefer pictures over words. I'm just not good with complete sentences.
I enjoy blogging, hope it's not going extinct.

  8. Agree with Lisa Gordon on this. I chose long ago to make my blog for me and that is firmly where i stand. I just recently turned my comments off because I really want it to be for me and my journey. In my blog format I do have "heart" button of likes but I don't know who those people are. That can be a disadvantage of an advantage. I prefer to think of it as an advantage. While it is nice to have comments it can also make you want to post for what you think people want to see. I again prefer to have my thoughts on what I want to post and not what I think others want to see. As Lisa put it so wisely these are just my thoughts on blogging and mine alone. I do however post a comment on blogs I really like and that will never stop. We all have choices and that is a wonderful thing, so do what makes you happy life if way too short to not do that as we all know. I love photography and I don't really like reading a lot of words on blogs prefer wonderful beautiful images and seeing different parts of the world. I love soup and usually post my soup for the week on my blog, as Martha would say "It is a good thing." Take care and enjoy your beautiful day or evening in your down under world. Long winded aren't I?

  9. Yes, I think there have been changes in the blogging world. Although with the recent instagram brouhaha I read that blogging was back! I'm another one whose blog is basically my online journal, I never check my reader stats and I don't worry about follower numbers. I definitely comment less but I still view and visit and I love your photos. :)

  10. I hope not! I love the blogs I follow, and have a renewed interest as I just launched on a new platform where I can do everything. I love this image and the greens are so fresh. I know what you mean about writers block. Sometimes I just load the image and let the words come. So glad I checked back in here!

  11. I still follow my favorite blogs (including this one) regularly, though I've noticed many of them post less these days...or not at all. But then I haven't posted on my own in at least a couple of months. Winter doldrums...a mild case of the blues...lack of inspiration or of anything to say...I don't know. It seems as if many who used to blog have drifted away into Instagram, which is not a place where I feel much at home. The connections and friendships I've made through blogging are precious to me and I would hate to lose that. PS - I love the grace and simplicity of this photo.

  12. Always love seeing your photos and a glimpse of the other side of the world. I haven't been very good at keeping up my blog recently - do more on IG and Flickr

  13. I just started blogging again...poetry and photos. Hard to believe the last time I posted was back in 2011. Your blog is on my list for one I followed so thought I would stop in and take a look around. That soup looks pretty good! I just made broccoli cheese soup the other day, so the fact that yours was green caught my eye! Hopefully I will be able to stay current and keep visiting now and again. :o)
