A new week ahead, it will be first of September soon and that heralds the first day of spring here. I can't wait! the wattle is out, the jasmine too and early in the morning you get wafts of these perfumes in the air.
With spring in mind, every winter I plant hyacinths in this old soup tureen I have had for years. I plant the bulbs and then leave the bowl in a dark cupboard in the laundry and check and water every so often. Over a few weeks the shoots start to appear and then I place it on the table and admire its colour and smell. I love the winter ritual and I always forget what colour bulb I have planted so it's a lovely surprise too. Do you have a winter ritual?
