The theme for the Sunday Creative is Orient. We used to live in Hong Kong and one of the things we liked to do was use fortune sticks. You shake the container of numbered sticks until the first stick jumps out as the naturally chosen indicator of your future. You then read the numbered passage in the text provided, which is written in poetic form to aid your future memory, and consider its meaning in relation to your own life. They say that the particular stick does not guarantee your future just as a road sign points your way but you must decide and travel the route yourself.

Very cool picture.. I have never seen these before..
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to play along with this challenge also this week! Hugs, Linda
Great shot.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of these, but what a neat thing!!!
I love that image. I lived in HK for 3 months but didn't know about these items very well - how lovely to learn today, thank you!
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? I love the shot and the idea behind the object. I'm a sucker for fortunes and horoscopes; not because they offer a glimpse into a set future, but because they allow you think outside the box, and offer a glimpse into what could be.
ReplyDeleteI love the great colors and depth in this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. I use a canon XSI and I used my Cannon EFS 55-250mm 1.1m/3.6ft lens (I use that lens probably 90% of the time)...I need to venture off a bit more! :)
Love this picture...great color and thanks for sharing in the culture of Hong Kong
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting post. I love learning things about other cultures.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely custom and gorgeous photo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shot, and the information is interesting to know!

ReplyDeleteLove these! We lived in HK too - long ago. Great photo for this week's prompt.
ReplyDeleteI love this picture. It's wonderful. The simple background really shows off the colours or the insense.
